Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does acupuncture hurt?
This is the most common question. Unlike injection needles, acupuncture needles are ultra-fine and flexible. Most people feel little to no discomfort. You might feel a mild tingling or a dull ache when the needle is in situ, which is a positive sign that the body’s energy is being stimulated. The vast majority of my clients find the experience deeply relaxing and calming.
2. Is acupuncture safe?
Yes, when performed by a ‘fully’ qualified and registered practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and adhere to their strict codes of safety and professional conduct. I only use pre-sterilised, single-use needles which are safely disposed of after every treatment.
3. What conditions can acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture treats the person, not just the condition, so it can be effective for a wide range of issues. My clients from across the Middlesbrough and wider Teesside area seek treatment for many reasons, most commonly for help with fertility journeys, relief from chronic pain (such as back pain or headaches), support with stress and anxiety, and to improve their general sense of wellbeing.
4. How many sessions will I need?
The number of treatments required varies from person to person. For acute issues, you may feel significant improvement after just a few sessions. For more chronic or complex conditions, a longer treatment course is often necessary. We will discuss your specific needs during your initial consultation, and I will recommend a realistic treatment plan for you.
